Fall Mountain bike camp

Downhill Mountain Bike Camp

Craig Hodder will be hosting a Downhill mountain bike camp for rider’s ages 12 to 17 years. Craig is a certified Level 1 mountain bike coach. Jordan Hodder will be the guest presenter and demonstrator for the day. The camp will take place at White Hills in St. John’s starting at 09:00 am on Saturday October 22, 2011. The camp will run for 5 hours and will cover bike set up, fitness, position on the bike, cornering, riding rock sections, jumping, pedaling etc. We are limiting the camp to 10 riders in order to provide the best instruction and so Jordan can spend time with each rider as required. This is a BNL sanctioned event which provides us insurance coverage and as such a BNL membership ($30) or a one day event licence at a cost of $10 is required. Also in order to participate in the camp a parent will need to sign a wavier as the riders are all under the age of 18. Riders are to have proper riding gear including full face helmet and goggles. The cost of the camp is $50 per rider which will be used as a fund raiser to support Jordan’s 2012 race season. Each rider will receive 5 plus hours of instruction, a folder with two seven day training plans (with and without weights), information on suspension set up, a group photo plus shuttling to the top of the trail and lunch. A set of Maxis HR DH tires will be the draw prize at the end of the day.  To sign up for the camp please contact Craig at 709-687-1541 or craighodder@nl.rogers.com once you have signed up I will provide all additional information.
Thanks
Craig and Jordan Hodder

The next phase

Thanks to everyone that came out for the first trail day.
With over 25 volunteers showing up we now know the interest is there. I'm off on a tour of some trails in New England so the next trail day will be on Nov.13. We will meet at the same place at 11am and work to 3 or 4. I want to let people know early to avoid any conflict, I know a lot more people wanted to be there yesterday but had made other commitments. Hopefully those people will be able to make the next big build.
For The next trail day I hope to tackle too of the most challenging parts of the loop. When done they will likely be a great example of   trail construction.
I have built similar sections  on many downhill race tracks so the engineering is already sorted.
Here are some photo to give everyone a idea of what we plan for the bench section.
This illustration shows the basic concept of a bench trail.

These pictures are good examples of A bench.

The trial will travel under A rock outcropping much like this one.
Hope to see everyone out for the 13th.

Sub Net over the hump

Freeride Mountain Sports
The lower section of the Subnet loop is now complete and ready to ride this gets us closer to the 7km planned loop. With the government planned clean up taking effect next mouth the area is going to be a great place to spend time on your bike next season but we need to finish the final section.
Now for the hard part, the final 2km is over the top of the high point of the White hills this section is a mix of open woods, rock steeps, and great descents. To finish this section I plan 5 build days between now and the beginning of the 2012 riding season. If we get 20-25 workers out each day for 4 hours this will add up to 500 hours this is what is needed to finish the loop.
The planned first day is Sunday Oct.16th
Location: north east gate near the RCMP entrants where the jump line is,there is limited parking so overflow can park on White hills rd.
Time 11am to 3pm
Tools and equipment: We have a full trail kit so if you have no tools not to worry if you want to bring tools A good working chain saw is always needed, light leaf racks, picks shovels are also needed do not bring axes or bow saws you will not need them. Gloves are important and glassed are recommended. Anyone that has spear lumber kicking around please bring this also make sure the lumber is new, any lengths longer then 12 inches is good do not bring lumber with nails in it.
Any more info contact me at freeridems@gmail.com

A lunch is highly recommended as the work is hard.
Please pass this message  along to anyone that you know who uses the trails including runners, hikers and snow shoers. As a group we can get this trail done.

Jordon Hodder makes the cut

Very Happy to tell you that Jordon Hodder from Mount Pearl Newfoundland was selected to represent Canada at the World Mountain bike Championships  that will take place next mouth in Switzerland.  Jordon will be racing in the junior downhill mountainbike race.
Downhill is the technical discipline of mountain biking and Jordon has the skill to get the job done.
When Jordon was 13 (now 17) I told his father Craig Hodder, Jordon will somday be on the Canadian National mountain Bike team,4 years on and all Jordon`s hard work has paid off.
This is a first for Newfoundland mountain biking  and anyone that rides off road in NL should be proud of Jordon`s great achievement.
Congratulation to Jordon and good luck in Sept. we will be watching.
